In Solidarity with CUPE Local 53

The CUPE 3908 executive wish to express our solidarity regarding the ongoing strike led by the dedicated members of CUPE Local 53 in Whitby. We support the local’s efforts over the past three weeks to advocate for their rights in the face of unfavourable concessions proposed by their employer. Regrettably, the employer has escalated the situation by seeking replacement workers from neighbouring municipalities, a move that undermines the very fabric of workers’ unity and strength.

We urge other locals to firmly emphasize the fundamental principle that CUPE members do not cross picket lines under any circumstances. By doing so, we demonstrate our commitment to the values of solidarity and fairness at the centre of the trade union movement. It is important that we support our fellow workers in Whitby as they fight not only for themselves but for every member of the labour community.

In Solidarity,

Your CUPE 3908 Executive
