Response To Mask Mandate Changes

On March 10th, 2022, Trent University released its latest update on its shifting COVID-19 policies in anticipation of the province removing mask mandates for most indoor settings by March 21st, 2022. CUPE 3908 continues to advocate for our members to be able to work safely, whether on campus or remotely. Trent’s current mask policy, which states that those on campus are required to wear masks in all indoor spaces at Trent, remains in place for at least the rest of the Winter Term. However, it is disconcerting that in the latest update, Trent states that masks “should” be worn indoors, not “must” be worn indoors. This wording implies that wearing masks indoors on campus is optional, which contradicts Trent’s mask policy.

Regardless of the Ontario government’s questionable pivot in recent months to living with COVID, that is not something that many individuals and their families can do.
