Negotiations for a new Unit 2 contact officially began last Wednesday in
the first round of collective bargaining with the employer.
The first meeting of the two parties, held on November 19th, served as an opportunity for initial discussion and the exchange of proposals.
Following their election in May, the Bargaining Team met regularly over the Fall term to consult with the membership and to draft proposals for a new agreement. The former Unit 2 Collective Agreement expired in August 2014.
Among the proposals currently on the table is a bid to maintain and preserve the Research Fellowship Award— a vital source of graduate student funding— by embedding it in the Collective Agreement, as well as another to top-up the Health Benefits Fund.
